The fine art of kissing ass.
The coworker who sits next to me is always arguing on the phone with clients. Every day, all the time, she has problems with people. Always, she has to get antagonistic and ask to speak to the other person’s supervisor. Never does it end with her or the other person satisfied. It’s a wonder she gets anything done.
I’ll stop and listen to her end of her phone calls because I’m fascinated: I never have those problems with people. Because I kiss ass.
I kiss so much ass. I say the right thing in the right tone of voice. I apologize when people want an apology. I can convince people that I’m on their side, even when I’m not, and that I’m doing what’s best for them. I rarely ever have problems. And I get people thanking me, even when I don’t give them what they want.
A hundred years ago, I would’ve been a snake oil salesman.
